Baltimore, Md. – RMF Engineering announced today that Tim Griffin, PE, CEM, LEED AP, division manager at RMF, was recently featured in a video by the International District Energy Association (IDEA) called “The Benefits of PEER Certification.” In the video, Griffin highlights the value of Performance Excellence in Electricity Renewal (PEER) certification — a U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) program, which is being expanded to apply to district energy systems and help streamline LEED certification.
PEER is a certification program designed to measure and improve sustainable power system performance. It evaluates power generation, transmission and distribution systems across four desired outcomes: resiliency and reliability, energy efficiency and atmosphere, operational effectiveness and customer support. PEER currently applies to electricity producers but is being expanded to include thermal systems and CHP.
As IDEA’s liaison to USGBC, Griffin is an expert in positioning District Energy Plants to best assist their customers’ buildings in obtaining LEED certification.
“PEER is the driving force behind the U.S. Green Building Council’s vision to transform power systems and it has the potential to be a game changer for district energy customers. We are in the process of making sure that achieving PEER certification on a district energy plan will simplify the process to achieving LEED certification on buildings,” Griffin said. “I was eager to participate in IDEA’s video about PEER to alert district energy professionals to the opportunity that we have to move the needle for our customers with this certification. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the U.S. Green Building Council to successfully bring PEER to the district energy industry.”
Griffin has been an active member of IDEA for 18 years and currently serves as vice chair of the association. He will be appointed chair of IDEA in June 2016, upon completion of his one-year term as vice chair.
