Baltimore, Md. – RMF Engineering announced today that its Raleigh Toastmasters club, “Madd Chatters”, recently celebrated its 100th meeting with a special luncheon that included remarks from several club members as well as an award presentation to recognize member achievements.
Toastmasters is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. The organization’s membership exceeds 313,000 in more than 14,650 clubs in 126 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters has helped people of all backgrounds become more confident in front of an audience.
RMF launched the club in 2005 to help employees hone their communications skills, and has since seen club graduates exhibit more confidence in group settings, act as mentors for younger team members and volunteer for more leadership positions.
“Effective communication is critical to a successful engineering career. From sharing ideas with co-workers to explaining complex designs to clients, being able to properly articulate yourself is a mandatory skill,” said Duane Pinnix, president and CEO of RMF Engineering. “The skills developed through Toastmasters complement our team’s technical abilities and give participants an opportunity to advance in their careers.”
To commemorate the success of RMF’s “Madd Chatters” Toastmasters club, the engineering firm invited several former club members who have earned the Competent Communicator award to join the meeting and speak about the club’s history: Willard Poindexter, network administrator with GoTriangle; Chris Silcott, operations engineer with Duke University; Brian Mitchell, mechanical engineer with Duke University; and Chad Anani, senior mechanical designer with Loring Consulting Engineers. Jeff Ellington, a current club member, delivered his tenth and final speech necessary to achieve his Competent Communicator award.
“Madd Chatters” is currently being led by Nathan Mlot, commissioning technician at RMF and president of the club, and Chase Davis, project engineer at RMF and vice president of the club.
