Facilities Help Close Manufacturing Skills Gap, Support Economic and Workforce Development
Baltimore, Md. – RMF Engineering has provided MEP services for the majority of the new advanced manufacturing training facilities at technical colleges in South Carolina. Equipped with the latest generation of tools, simulators and software, these facilities are home to two-year mechatronics programs, developed in partnership with leading automobile and aviation production companies to help grow the local pool of qualified workers. By teaching the students using the same machines they will eventually use on the job – such as digitally operated lathes, pultrusion machines, CNC machines and 3-D printers – the facilities will help close the manufacturing skills gap and support both economic and workforce development throughout South Carolina.
The manufacturing industry makes up 20.9 percent of South Carolina’s gross domestic product (GDP), according to the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance. Without these targeted efforts at increasing the numbers of skilled workers in the manufacturing field, the skills gap will continue to increase. The manufacturing training facilities engineered by RMF help combat the skills gap and support South Carolina’s manufacturing industry.
“As engineers, we often have an opportunity to contribute to innovative and meaningful projects that have a significant impact on the community,” said Duane Pinnix, president and CEO of RMF. “The training facilities we’re working on in South Carolina are helping bring skilled workers to key industries, and we are proud to work with colleges across the state to bring these facilities to fruition.”
RMF was the engineer of record for advanced manufacturing training facilities at eight schools: Central Carolina Technical College, Florence-Darlington Technical College, Greenville Technical College, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Midlands Technical College, Piedmont Technical College, Spartanburg Community College, and Trident Technical College. The firm was also the engineer of record for training facilities that support other industry sectors, such as energy and allied health services, for six other schools: Denmark Technical College, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Tri-County Technical College, Williamsburg Technical College and York Technical College.
