RMF Engineering has been awarded an Outstanding Project of the Year for 2010 by Learning by Design Magazine’s Fall Issue. Learning by Design is the premier source for education design and innovation excellence. Published twice each year, this prestigious magazine recognizes the nation’s preeminent architectural and engineering firms by publishing outstanding pre-K to 12 and college/university projects. A select jury of architects and educational facility planners review all entries for inclusion in the issue, and identifies the top projects to receive the award. The New Central Chilled Water Plant is the school’s first LEED building, receiving a LEED Gold Certification. It was also the first LEED certified new construction project for the City of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. This award recognizes RMF’s use of a range of innovative technologies, including energy efficient utility systems, to create a campus chilled water system that uses less energy, and therefore, has a positive effect on the environment while lowering the Owner’s utility bills. The plant provides centralized campus cooling, and is sized to accommodate future growth. The chilled water is distributed to the entire 50 acre campus via 7,000 feet of underground piping.
“This project is a testament to RMF’s philosophy of designing sustainable, energy efficient systems,” said Don Zimmerman, RMF’s Project Manager on the project. “This gold certification lends further support to our commitment to being a leader among schools in the areas of conservation and environmental awareness,” says Pine Crest Head of School Dale Smith,” and lets our students and community know that we are serious about educating our future generations about the importance of environmental stewardship.”
