Overview
The project consists of a new Elementary School for grades pre-K through 5th grade, and is located in the new Nexton Development in Summerville, SC. The school is approximately 105,000 SF, and will initially accommodate 780 students with room to expand to 900 students. Spaces are typical for an elementary school and consist of classrooms, media center/library with a computer lab, cafeteria, and a multi-purpose room with a stage.
Engineering Highlights
- The HVAC system consists of a Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) system, with outside air for ventilation and humidity control provided by Dedicated Outside Air Systems (DOAS)
- Total heat recovery and sensible heat recovery heat exchangers are used for increased energy efficiency, and the HVAC system are accessible via a mechanical platform for ease of maintenance
- RMF’s electrical scope of work for the project included the provision of all electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarm and special systems
- The building is fully sprinkled by an automatic wet sprinkler system in accordance with NFPA 13
