The purpose of this Utilities portion of the Framework Plan for Emory University’s main campus was to identify projects that will be necessary to serve the future facilities and to ensure that existing and future utilities are adequate, reliable, sustainable, and efficient. The renewal of the existing systems was combined with the identified needs for future site requirements to comprise a Utilities Framework Plan for the campus. This plan was then integrated into the 2020 Framework Plan based upon the priority of requirements and building schedules. This study is intended to provide a cursory direction for the University utility systems.
The capital costs, energy savings, fuel cost, and carbon emission developed in this study, were given to the University’s third-party sustainability consultant. These results, in addition to the results of other studies completed for the Framework Plan were compiled and reviewed by the University. This study does not give a specific recommendation because it is not inclusive of the other potential projects that could occur on the campus. This study’s main concentration was the steam, chilled water, and electric generation and distribution systems.
