This project included a 90,000 SF bed tower addition and 3,700 SF addition to the central utility plant. The bed tower addition includes a dialysis suite, physical therapy and rehabilitation gym, dining and activities suite, administration space, and 80 patient rooms with eight nurse call stations.
The building addition is served by two custom central station air handling units. Each unit utilized chilled and hot water from the central plant. Plumbing systems were extended from the main hospital to support the new bed tower. Medical gases were extended from the main hospital to serve the new patient rooms and dialysis. Fire protection was also extended from the existing hospital to the new bed tower.
In addition to the bed tower, the existing central energy plant which provides chilled water, hot water and emergency power to the campus was expanded to support the new bed tower. The existing plant was expanded by an additional 3,700 SF to allow the installation of a new 1,000 ton variable speed centrifugal chiller and variable speed primary chilled water pump along with a new stainless steel counterflow cooling tower to support the chilled water system. A new 12,000 MBH hot water boiler and associated primary and variable speed secondary pumps were also added.
