CCAA Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP)

Overview

The Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP) completely renovated and expanded the facility into an efficient, modern airport with the ability to keep pace with the rapidly growing economy and tourism in the Charleston area. Two new building additions totaling approximately 83,000 SF were added, eight new gates were added to the concourses, doubling the number of current gates. The renovations include all new HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems to serve the terminal building, as well as a new central security checkpoint, ticketing, concessions, baggage and other passenger amenities.

Engineering Highlights:

  • All mechanical building systems were replaced in their entirety including 16 custom built and packaged AHUs that distribute approximately 270,000 CFM of conditioned air to the terminal building.
  • Chilled water upgrades include the relocation of two existing 420 ton chillers, and the addition of a new 820 ton chiller.
  • Five 1,395 MMBTUH, natural gas, condensing, fire-tube boilers provide upgraded heating water capacity.
  • A complete multiplexed, addressable fire alarm system was provided throughout the building in accordance with the requirements of NFPA and ADA.
  • All work was completed in phases to keep the terminal building operational during construction.
