John P. Williamson, PE, PACP

Director

John Williamson joined RMF in 1995 as a project engineer and now serves on the firm’s board of directors. He quickly demonstrated a passion for and ability to take on the most complex and challenging campus underground utility distribution projects in the country and has dedicated his career to that focus. Today, he is one of the country’s leading experts in this niche sector having been responsible, over the last 25 years, for the installation of hundreds of miles of underground thermal piping (steam and condensate, hot water, and chilled water) and electrical power transmission using direct bury, walk through tunnel, and shallow trench techniques. He is a subject matter expert in the application of, “Trenchless Technologies,” for the discreet installation of underground utilities using micro-tunneling, augering, jack and bore, and directional drilling techniques. He has successfully utilized the newest materials available—HDPE and HDPE RT piping as well as thin wall EN253 piping—for the distribution of thousands of linear feet of hot and chilled water piping at multiple campuses.

John serves as RMF’s practice area leader for Civil Engineering, leads the Civil / Structural Engineering Department in RMF’s Baltimore office, and has trained a countless number of highly capable engineers. His career development has continued to prosper, and in 2018 he became a member of the board of directors at RMF where his valuable input on technology is essential to the firm’s production efficiency.

John is a licensed professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University. He has received national recognition as a leader in, “Trenchless Tunneling for Campus Utilities,” and has written and presented this methodology for organizations such as APPA and the International District Energy Association (IDEA).
