Facilities Maintenance Decisions Turns to RMF for Insight Into Designing Emergency Lighting Systems That Always Light the Way

Though one hopes they will never be needed, emergency lighting systems are an essential safety requirement for any institutional or commercial building. But knowing whether a system is fully operational, compliant, and appropriate for each structure can be difficult to truly determine until an emergency arises. Therefore, expert knowledge of codes, standards, documentation plans and best practices during the design phase is vital to making sure emergency lighting systems keep everyone safe.

In an article for Facilities Maintenance Decisions, Electrical Principal at RMF Engineering, Beth Crutchfield, PE, LEED AP was asked to share how she collaborates with clients to design each emergency lighting plan with the unique building in mind. She explains why it can be vital to provide more than just what building codes require and how time-consuming practices like testing inspections can be made far easier with the proper technology and design implementation.
