Bowdoin College in coastal Brunswick, Maine has been described as one of the “New Ivy” elite institutions of higher learning. Established in 1794, it has graduated a long roster of such notable alums as author Nathaniel Hawthorne and Sen. George Mitchell. This year, it was named the fifth-best liberal arts college in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.
