RMF Engineering Wins SCUP Merit Award

Baltimore, Md. – October 24, 2011 – RMF Engineering today announced winning the Merit Award from the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). This AIA-CAE Excellence in Architecture award recognizes RMF’s work for the $26 million restoration to transform Duke University’s East Campus into a state-of-the-art, natural gas-fueled steam plant that has since gained LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council.

Every year, SCUP recognizes excellence in planning, design and implementation efforts of firms and institutions whose lives and passions involve higher education. Firms submit their projects, and SCUP evaluates why and how these plans are worthy of recognition. The winners exemplify the application of excellence in planning tools resulting in inspiring buildings.

In February, RMF announced winning nine awards for the same project. In addition to receiving these honors, the project has helped transform the decaying East Campus area into a new, sustainable facility while restoring its historic charm and making way for possible future building restorations.
