BALTIMORE – RMF Engineering announced today that Tim Griffin, PE, CEM, LEED AP, the firm’s executive vice president, was honored with the 2018 Norm Taylor Award by the International District Energy Association (IDEA). The Norm Taylor Award, presented each year at IDEA’s Annual Conference & Trade Show, is IDEA’s tribute to its “Person of the Year.” The award is the top honor IDEA can confer on an individual, recognizing that person’s lifetime achievements and contributions to the district energy and cooling industry.
“It was an unexpected and incredible honor to be recognized by IDEA in this way,” said Griffin. “When I think about all the organization has done for me, I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve this mission-driven community for the past two decades.”
Griffin has been a member of IDEA for 20 years, previously serving as chair, vice chair, second vice chair, board member, U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) liaison and technical chair. He is a seasoned speaker and author who has written about district energy for American School & University Magazine and HPAC Engineering Magazine, and regularly contributes to IDEA’s quarterly publication, District Energy Magazine.
In his 21-year tenure at RMF Engineering, Griffin has helped develop the firm’s Raleigh, North Carolina office into an award-winning team, counting Duke University, North Carolina State University and Georgia Tech among its clients. He has also overseen the establishment of offices in Charlotte, NC and Atlanta.
Griffin is the author of the book, Winning With Millennials: How to Attract, Retain & Empower Today’s Generation of Design Professionals. He earned his bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and his master of business administration from Colorado State University.
